Potato/potato

There is a HUGE difference between allowing a child to interact with an infected household member, in the hopes of "getting it over with", and sending a child to play with an infected friend.

Are we suggesting that if your child gets covid, you should isolate them from the rest of the family otherwise you are a COVIDiot?

1) when my daughter got covid, we all wore masks (and no one else got it)
2a) I understand how most people would just assume that all their household members were exposed and infected, and proceed to just quarantine everyone together;
2b) which is very different than quarantining everyone together so that they "can get it over with now instead of shlepping it out" i.e. doing an intentional action in the hopes their child gets infected.

Plenty of families didn't have all children get it without wearing masks or taking any isolation precautions. And plenty who did wear masks spread it anyway.

Frankly, suggesting imposing such measures on kids at home is cruel, IMHO.

Yep, was just pointing out that there are alternatives. My wife was in the middle of a high risk pregnancy so we weren't taking chances.

I agree, when my wife got it (late 2020 IIRC), we just quarantined at home together because we assumed (after talking it over with our doctor) we all had been infected (which turned out not to be true, no one else tested positive).

But again, that's very different than doing it out of convenience, in order that the children should get infected, which is what was being portrayed as a strategy for "normal, caring parents".

Can you explain the difference? If I would want to get it over with, why wouldn't I send my kid to play with an infected friend?

It would be אינו מתכוון if they weren't actively trying to get the kid infected (at home). Not only are they not taking even minimal precautions (e.g. try to have the infected stay away from the healthy kids, same as anytime a member of the family gets sick - "Yaakov, stay away from Boruch, you're sick!") - they're actively promoting the infected to interact with the healthy kids.

(This is all in the scenario that was proposed above, as a practice of "normal, caring parents". I have no idea if this is what happens in real life - this is a theoretical discussion for all I know.)

Keeping young kids apart within the home is extremely difficult.  Allowing them to play together is acknowledging that one can not reasonably keep them separated enough to make a difference.  I am not talking about having them share plates, beds, etc. - just about not keeping them from being around one another.  Generally, by the time one finds out that one child is infected, they have likely exposed their siblings.

Sending them to a friend or neighbor that they have NOT been exposed to is a different situation altogether.

In one, the parent is bowing to the inevitable - child A has Covid, and shares a room with B.  They now both need to stay home, and keeping them apart would be very hard (to put it mildly.  The parents can either make themselves crazy trying to keep the kids apart, likely only to find out next week that  B also has Covid, or just let it go.  B will either get or not get Covid (this time,), and if they get it, at least we are done with quarantining.  I

In the other, they are deliberately sending their child to play with someone infected, thus intentionally bringing Covid into their home.

BTW, speaking to someone running a monoclonal antibodies "clinic", they are seeing that this wave, when one family member gets it, everyone in the house gets it too, משא"כ in previous waves when some would and some wouldn't.

I've seen the same with my neighbors this round.

Be specific. What measures should be included in "do what you can"?

You are a parent, correct? You shouldn't have to ask that then.

If you are calling people idiots, at least give some concrete examples of what they can do to not be idiotic. Is masking your kids at home common sense? If they have their own room, not letting them out? Not letting them eat dinner with the rest of the family? What exactly do you want the idiots to do?
