My dad had a worker come in last week a day after she tested for COVID, and obviously the test turned out positive.
My dad is not young and has been very careful. So stupid that he now has to have exposure because people are so stupid. Besides that, he had to go into quarantine for yuntif, ruining his yuntif. What was this lady thinking. She knew she might test positive and have to tell him. What did she gain by hiding.
Besides not being able to go to their children (each one that lives locally had a kid in quarantine), my parents now spent yuntif not together. I just don't get what this virus does to make people stupid
I'm going to offer a potential explanation of the thought process, this is assuming there is no known exposure.

If someone wakes up one morning feeling a little lousy, most people don't assume it's COVID. So they can either quarantine likely needlessly to see if the symptoms pass or they can go about their day and see if it gets better. Most people will choose the latter, especially when this can happen to them fairly often.

This person may have chosen to be a little more cautious and get tested. The alternative was not getting tested and continuing life as usual for a few more days which would have been worse. I'm not saying this is the case, but it is very likely.

Needing to use a sick day is definitely an incentive to choose this option.
I wonder what people who type "u" instead of "you" do with all their free time.

That is a fair explanation (assuming no known exposure as you say)

What in the world is the point of keeping it secret? ? ? ? This isn't February. We all know what it is and what it's about!!!! There's no shame whatsoever in having it, it's prudent to ADVERTISE it so that everyone could make their own informed decisions!

He happens to be an alpha male who of course subscribes to the “it’s not worse than the flu” school of science. Why say you’re positive if you’ll need to cancel your holiday meals for a fake virus?

Or they just don't have people who tested positive walking around town like nothing happened.
We are seeing that the two mostly go hand in hand even if only for psychological reasons. It seems to be way too much to expect people who pride themselves on understanding minute nuances of a RASHBA to grasp the concept of finding a proper balance about a disease without totally ignoring it.

Been wondering about the correlation of lack of secular education and this.

So a close relative of mine (of whom both spouses currently have symptomatic confirmed COVID) went to a massive Chol Hamoed indoor venue today with other siblings. Don’t worry, they wore a mask most of the time.

In their words: “The Rav said [the husband] can come to Shul now (4 days after onset of symptoms and testing positive, still somewhat symptomatic), so what’s the difference?”

You’re right. There truly is no difference.

I'm shocked people don't realize there's something wrong with this.

As I hear more of these stories, I'm more convinced than ever that this is the problem.

These people will lead to having Lakewood swarming with state police. It will be squarely on their shoulders.

AFAIK, they don't even have rabbanim to rely on.

It’s not a din in stupidity. We certainly have no monopoly on stupidity.

It’s because of idiots like this that no one should organize such events. In Frum neighborhoods where virtually nobody is masked, a masked person is starting to mean exposed/infected...

We have somewhat of a monopoly on herd mentality, and a shortage of critical thinking.

Is this not something we can have all the rabbanim in agreement on to put out a joint statement?

They have, many times! People are simply not listening.

Unfortunately not. I have discussed why joint statements are impossible numerous times.

Friend was davening in Shomer Shabbos in a mask in the back. Guy next to him in a mask says, "you positive, too?"

In my neighborhood ~10% of people wear masks in shul. I don't know about all of them, but the ones I do know were definitely NOT infected or significantly exposed. There is 1 person who was exposed but not to the point of needing to quarantine, out of an abundance of caution he started wearing a mask (now more than 2 weeks later he is still from the minority wearing masks.
