Any ideas to help me?
« on: May 30, 2021, 09:52:52 PM »
I'm looking for someone to pick up furniture from a store in Virginia and drive it to Lakewood. It would probably need a small truck or trailer to fit it in. The store requires that the person picking it up shows his ID and credit card to prevent some sort of fraud, so I cant just hire any mover to deliver it to me. It's really just a regular furniture store that won't deliver to NJ.

Why can’t you just inform them you’re sending “ABC“ moving company to get it ?

Not sure. They said they need to see the ID and CC match. Not really being helpful. New policy.

Yes.
Maybe I can find a mover that would buy it for me and then deliver it...

how about making the mover an additional cardholder-without using their social and freezing the card

If you pay upfront for whatever is going on the mover's cc I don't see why they wouldn't. It would just have to be a small moving company so the guy himself would be the one driving down there.

Thanks!
Working on these options.
Seems like movers want a lot of money for such a job :(
Going to try to shop around for someone that would worth it for me.

Is this not available in the tri-State area for less than paying to move it from there ?

Ask for the manager.
Doesn't sound right. They don't expect the buyer to "deliver" their own furniture. It's commonly done by a delivery service.

Alternatively, if delivery is free, have them deliver it to the Walmart parking lot down the block, and your driver/mover will receive the delivery there.

Or better yet, one at the furthermost reaches of their delivery zone, closest to Lakewood.

They might have a similar ID policy for delivery.

I agree with @Saver2000, see if a manager can accept a pic/scan of ID and CC, or maybe a video call with you showing your photo ID and CC. Then you can just send any freight/trucking company to come get it.

If it's near Norfolk, perhaps I can think of someone for you. Check distance from the local frum community...

Maybe post on Craigslist (or some such) for the area?
I no longer have constant Internet access, so you won't be seeing quite as much of me.

Find someone you trust (and who trusts you) in Lakewood who has a few days free and wants an all-expenses-paid vacation in an incredibly scenic part of the country, in exchange for doing this small job for you.  Rent a truck locally, pay them for gas, food, and overnight accommodations, and ask them to pick up the furniture and put it on their credit card and drive back with it.  IDK prices now, could be flying OW and renting a truck there for the return would also work.

There are driving chats in Lakewood that you can post this as a job and get offers from people willing to do it.
