One reason would be that amex limits the number of cards you're allowed to have. So it would occupy a valuable slot.

If you do close, make sure you transfer any UR associated with those accounts to other chase UR cards before closing (since UR is associated with each card, as opposed to the Amex MR pooling methodology).

One other callout: do you have other chase cards that allow for UR-to-airline transfers? That could be a potential downside depending on your remaining card portfolio.

One thing to think about is trying to stay off of Amex’s no-SUB pop up list. I’m sure nobody knows for certain whether a product change is better in that regard than closing the card, but I wouldn’t be surprised if it is.
