AA Forced Check Carry On
« on: October 08, 2020, 12:23:55 PM »
Short story with AA ,

Showed up with 2 carry-ons [3 pax]  5 minutes before gate close [20 minutes before departure], booked in Domestic F, gate agent told us there is room for the bags.

When we got to plane a male FA said there is no room for the bags and they need to get checked through to final destination. I hesitated and said it doesn't make any sense that  F seats have the overhead bins full. It usually doesn't happen + I need my food for the day, and if u want me to take only the food then I'll empty the entire suitcase. He said "no its full" and I said "I need my food as I eat kosher and have a family to feed for the day". After some back and forth he agreed to tag it for Jet Bridge retrieval and check the other bag to final destination.

Takeoff, seat belt sign off and I get up to check the overhead bins and sure enough there is ample room for both. I took pics and off I went.

I respectfully asked the FA why he lied to me and said there was no room when there was more then enough, he said we can't move stuff around, I said not true as its the most normal thing to move bags around + there was ample room without moving anything around, he came to see for himself and  after seeing there was room for our bags  he said it was the gate agents fault, a plain and simpl lie. I said, don't lie again... after some back and foth he just walked away throwing me a slit throat gesture.

A few minutes later after asking a female FA  to tell other agent not to be nasty, she told me "well, passengers should not be nasty".

A few minutes later they came together to make sure there was actually room but no exchange of words occurred then.

Such disgusting behavior, I kept my cool and spoke respectfully, yet they acted nasty...

How can they claim they allow carry on when they force check it with ample room. '

Still on the flight....

Should I ask for station manager upon landing, or deal with it at a later time.

I left off some minor details as they  don't really change the facts of the story.

It is disgusting what legacy carriers get away with.
I find the FAs in F to be the worst, usually a bunch of old grumpy, has beens.

Flying AA I expect no better than what you described. I cannot remember the last time I flew AA and had anything resembling a 'normal' flying experience where nothing went wrong.

Did you ever fly Swiss? I had a very similar experience than you did. I never got anywhere with them, though United (slightly) compensated me (!). I had booked the flight with United miles.

U had the gate agent tell you there was no room and the FA saying there is room , I had the opposite, the gate agent saying there was room and the FA that had just been on the plane saying there was no room.

Gate agents many times say there is no room and tag it,  but an FA that has just been on the plane? In F?
I thought they were looking for business these days!

A video of the slit throat would be a game changer.

I left off some minor details as they  don't really change the facts of the story.

I have some important documentation.

It very hard to expect people to video or audio record sudden encounters.

When a police stops you, you have a chance to start recording, when entering government property the same. But every sudden encounter with an airline worker?

For myself its my new standard, always video record boarding, deplaneing and airport encounters. Don't wait for it to happen just roll it like a dash cam.
