Why are the poll results on DDF so dif from the MSM polls.... ::)
I'd hope MSM doesn't poll mainly one (very specific) demographic :)

How would you know it benefits Biden? most Democrats are doing voting by mail. I would say it Benefits Republicans' because they are mostly voting in person.
Higher turnout benefits Biden - he's the one that has to convince his voters he's worth the effort. Trump voters are more enthusiastic and motivated.

And has he done a good job convicting them? By telling the 56% of people who said they are better of economically under Trump then Obama shouldn't vote for him?

Make jokes, but I see this a possibility within the next decade.

Lincoln already addressed this and argued effectively that states do not possess the right to leave the union.

Quote
Secession is Unlawful
First Inaugural Address March 4, 1861

I hold that, in contemplation of universal law, and of the Constitution, the union of these States is perpetual....It follows....that no State, upon its own mere motion, can lawfully get out of the Union; that resolves and ordinances to that effect are legally void; and that acts of violence, within any State or States, against the authority of the United States, are insurrectionary or revolutionary, according to circumstances. I, therefore, consider that, in view of the Constitution and the laws, the Union is unbroken.

First Inaugural Address March 4, 1861

We find the proposition that, in legal contemplation, the Union is perpetual confirmed by the history of the Union itself. The Union is much older than the Constitution. It was formed, in fact, by the Articles of Association in 1774. It was matured and continued by the Declaration of Independence in 1776. It was further matured, and the faith of all the thirteen States expressly plighted and engaged that it should be perpetual, by the Articles of Confederation in 1778. And, finally, in 1787, one of the declared objects for ordaining and establishing the Constitution was "to form a more perfect Union."

Message to Congress in Special Session July 4, 1861

The States have their status in the Union, and they have no other legal status. If they break from this they can only do so against law and by revolution.

Why are you trying to change the topic? Earlier voting = higher turnout = better for Biden. Disagree?

I don't think rights will be an obstacle. The far right and the far left have enough guns, enough hate, and enough members to make the Constitution an afterthought.

Different than the Civil War. Definitely more polar, with many more anarchists and foreign interests in the mix.

The military and Federal apparatus have infinitely more centralized power than during the civil war. A secession won't happen again, the only option is an expulsion.

And if we slash military funding and size in an extreme way? The National Guard is also better equipped than ever before.

Unless the military itself has a coup, which is not unlikely based on which party a majority of it stands with.
Sorry if I ask so many questions, but life is short and there is so much to learn! Let's help each other be great!

The military is way too big for a coup. It's not possible to organize anything resembling a majority of a body of 1.5m men spread out on all corners of the world. The leadership is shuffled around deliberately to prevent pockets of power. The intermediary levels of command are all loyal to the constitution, not the President, as Milley and others made abundantly clear in their letters to servicemen after the Trump church debacle.

Not even the Republic of Texas?

IANAL - are you genuinely asking or is that an acknowledged exception?

I recall hearing or reading about it once, that they had special terms upon joining the union. I never checked it out.

That would have been 1845, well before Lincoln's legal arguments, so if there were terms he would have been aware

FTFY

The idea that some are suggesting (and I don't think will ever happen) is that it would be a mutually agreed upon split.
