VP is in office and presides over senate until the next VP comes into office on Jan 20. The senate vote for VP is immediately after being sworn in on Jan 3

He has some headwind to make, but he got a chance.

Right, so it's theoretically possible that Pence will be the deciding vote on him being VP. (And if Biden wins the election in the House...)
