New York State Assembly has moved into executive session to consider impeachment of Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D-NY), nearly one week after Attorney General Letitia James released her report that found the governor harassed multiple women, violating state and federal law.
The Assembly Judiciary Committee, though, is not expected to draft its articles of impeachment or select its impeachment managers, according to Assemblyman Phil Steck, D-Colonie, who sits on the committee. Instead, it is likely the 21-member body at its 9:30 a.m. meeting is going to discuss James' report — which led to Democrats saying they lost confidence in Cuomo to continue to serve as governor.
Cuomo has until August 13th to respond to the Judiciary Committee's investigation. Cuomo has generally denied the findings in the AG's investigation and his attorneys have mounted attacks on the credibility of James and her team. A criminal complaint has been referred to the Albany County Sheriff's Office related to at least one incident.
