In my circle of friends (similar age group to Yehuda57) I haven't found anyone else who didn't have clear symptoms before purim. So I'm also the only guy in my shul with a mask (or was through the summer, will be next week). And yes, that is the more uncomfortable part. Are surgical masks less obtrusive, or black cotton?

The point still stands, though, that people believe what they believe and stats/science has nothing to do with it.

I didn't, and probably should soon because now is the small window of time when I'm likely to test positive if either of those illnesses somehow coincided with COVID and still tested negative with PCR.

You’re right. It looks like he’s clearly talking about the shutdowns being complied. Interestingly he took pains to point out he is *not* referring to the entire community, only a small but vocal segment.

They have never complied with the rules and I have had dozens and dozens of conversations. It's not that they are not complying with the current "red zone" rule, they never complied with any of the close-down rules going back to March. That's why some find this shocking because they didn't follow many of the rules all along and that's why they think this is abrupt. What is abrupt is that they would comply with any rule.  I also want to make the point that the majority of Ultra-Orthodox groups that I've been speaking with are cooperative. There are a relatively small number — loud but small — that are uncooperative and just believe that they should be exempt from these types of government regulations. But what's complicating it for this smaller number of groups is that they really have not ever followed any of these rules back from March, which is surprising.

I took one at Quest and one at Labcorp.
Insurance covered it in full.

Being that this whole branch of conversation started with an insanely small sample of "people I spoke to today", I feel like I should let you know that I came late and was catching up on Tehillim for the most part, and one of the guys I spoke to was on a ventilator, so yeah, he had it.

And where are all the cases from May/Jun/Jul/Aug??? Based on the non-compliance, schools and shuls open without any masks or social bs, there should have been tons of cases and deaths, where are they??

Vouchers is a big chunk of it, but it's certainly more than just that.
For doctors/lawyers, jobs are very good and their salary simply goes much further.
It's a great place to raise kids. Plus it's probably the closest drive to NYC from a Jewish community in a Red state?

My cr@ppy insurance told me only one COVID test would be covered, and wouldn't specify over what period of time, whether it was per exposure/ bout of symptoms, or whether they'd cover one PCR and one antibody or just one total.

I just go down to the local public hospital where there's no wait and I can theoretically get a daily PCR or antibody test (but not both) at no cost. I don't even think they attempt to bill my insurance.

Is there a different (sensible) approach? How about rapid tests for everyone entering coupled with enforced 2 week quarantine after attending? Let people make their choices rather than escalate the confrontation.

Just a lack of a super-spreader. Same reason COVID was in the US since January but didn't get bad until March.

My local urgent care billed my insurance, not the government, and advised me that I'd be on the line to pay if my insurance didn't cover it.
