The protests bothered Coumo, you can see what his advisors were tweeting then, but they were able to spin it that HT is an ex-con, he said something about DB's wife, and the following day JK took the attention

Protests don't accomplish much, other than make noise. They should empty every shul and every yeshiva of their tables and chairs, set them up on the streets of the locked down blocks/zip codes, and turn the streets into the world's largest learn-a-thon. At least that way, something will be accomplished.

He may not have that much sway over the minute details of the decisions we make, but him downplaying the severity led to an overall lack of urgency about the virus throughout the entire city. If no one is taking it seriously, it definitely plays a part in us not shutting down on Purim.

Bothering the man is counterproductive. He doesn't know how to lose a fight, so we need to let him feel like he won the battle while we quietly win the war.

Unfortunately a lot of it is well founded. But that doesn’t mean that his initial warnings were wrong and they definitely could’ve saved lives if they were heeded.

I don't know if listening would have saved lives (the degree of identicality of death rates across all zipcodes in NYC carries an element of insinuation that shutdowns were too little too late everywhere), but he certainly wasn't wrong that we were playing with fire.

Not just Cuomo, but if there was a concerted effort from NYC and state to warn, things could have been toned down. We mostly shut down that Friday in CH without any hospitalizations or deaths, just based on fewer than 10 confirmed cases.

One statement that was barely shared is not begging. I only saw that notice a week after Purim.

Hatzalah has been remarkably quiet. They are the greatest organization in the world, but they have not used their cache to educate or ask the community to use precautions at all. I've heard from numerous Hatzalah members that masks are a joke, for instance.

It’s a terrible analogy because he was spot on in the beginning but then decided to use his platform for baseless attacks on Jews that weren’t listening to him later on.
