I see why you would give Cuomo the benefit of the doubt here, but it's not fair to completely discount everything that happened in the beginning. IMO we should compare FL to CA, neither of them got slammed in the beginning and while CA is still mostly in lockdown FL is basically wide open, yet somehow they have a nearly identical death rate (within 10% and that's without accounting for FL population being significantly older). If lockdowns really saved lives, we should see a significant difference in the death rate between FL and CA.
CA is doing a terrible job with their lockdown. They’re both bottom of the barrel.

California had a variant.

Until Dec 1 2020, Florida has 18k deaths for 21m residents and Califronia has 19k deaths for 39m residents, so Florida had 2x the deaths .

Yes, it's cherry picked data, but how do you explain the cherry picked difference in deaths??? Desantis prioritized the economy and general wellbeing over Covid death count, and it shows. He may have been right to do so,  I don't know.

I'm guessing Florida is also reporting deaths later than CA so there's a bias in the last few weeks, and Florida is covering up so overall excess deaths would tell the real the story.

There is no debate overall Democratic areas fared far better than Republican areas. You can argue Democrats didn't have more restrictions, or you can argue restrictions did more bad than good, but it's impossible to argue that Democrats had more restrictions and they did more harm when Democrats demonstrably did better.

Without getting into this NY/FL/CA mess yet again... FL and CA were seeded from different strains and have different weather conditions, FL had many "lockdowns" at the city and county levels on par with CA, many of FL's older population are clustered together in their own neighborhoods or even towns away from densely populated areas, and FL's healthcare system kicked some serious tushy despite government policies.

Here's a fun game to play. See if you can guess which stat line belongs to which state:

Cases Per Million / Deaths Per 10M / Fatality Rate
1: 87796 / 14132 / 1.61%
2: 89602 / 12911 / 1.44%
3: 87641 / 14546 / 1.66%
4: 82854 / 23945 / 2.89%
5: 77835 / 25822 / 3.32%
6: 111650 / 21560 / 1.93%
7: 82130 / 14591 / 1.78%
8: 92004 / 20570 / 2.24%
9: 83262 / 23133 / 2.78%
10: 93217 / 16105 / 1.73%

PS. As PG alluded to and as I've been claiming since April, don't use FL as proof of anything until the excess deaths are published. If you think Cuomo covering up NH deaths was bad, DeSantis will deserve to be tied to the same stake.

Yeah, Destantis baked it in so deep the deaths will never be reported as Covid deaths.

I believe that the decisions to open Yeshivos, Jewish schools, Synagogues, and even religious sleep-away Camps are religious decisions. They should therefore be decided by our religious experts (i.e. our Rabbis). Full stop. It's their job to consult with knowledgeable medical experts as necessary and take into account known (and unknown) risks.

There was a precedent set by politicians (who happened to mostly Democratic) to treat our religion as non-essential. That's a very dangerous precedent. Thankfully, the tide is turning somewhat and people are now in favor of limiting the power of politicians. However, the sentiment by certain people in power to suppress religion has not changed.

I believe that it's our job to speak up in favor of those who helped us and in favor of policies that help us.

What does that have to do with anything? Since when does anyone care about what I like? Religions do not have autonomy to do whatever they want. You don't even think that they should.

It's a great thing! But public safety comes first. What's Shapiro's line? Your right to punch ends at my face?

Okay, Lurker, so that's where we disagree. Governments have killed far more people (in the interest of the greater good) than COVID ever will.

Maybe it's just me, but somehow I just don't trust politicians to make these decisions for our benefit. Political power is a slippery slope.

I also certainly do not trust politicians to factor in our religious needs when they weight the risks/benefits.

For example, I believe that the political power of the teachers union played a role in the decision to close public schools. Let the children play video games and surf the net all day, right? To a non-Jew that might not be a problem. To many religious Jews that's simply not acceptable.

I believe very strongly that we should do everything we could to limit the power of politicians to control our religion. It's not their business.

Are you really going to argue that Cuomo didn't kill people?
