where to transfer amex points to?

So my free year with the Amex Premier gold card is up and I was charged the $175 annual fee 2 days ago. I would like to close my card but not before I transfer out my points. I have about 40k MR points (I already used up a bunch, I had 85k). Wondering where I should transfer to? JetBlue, Delta, or somewhere else? I doubt I will be traveling within the next year because of personal issues but if I do, it would only be domestic. I know many airlines points expire after 12 months of no activity.

Any advice is appreciated.

If you want to go the route of opening up a card, I'd open the AMEX Business Gold. Waived annual fee and, when/if it does come due, it'll be less than half of the plat.

If you want to go the transfer route, the airline you transfer to would depend where you live.

For me, living on the East Coast and with all the promos, I'd choose Delta.

i had same situation called amex retention they gave me 20k pts to keep open and promised another 7500 after spending 3k
in meanwhile opened a plat (got 50 k for that) so i dont lose my mr points   and will soon close the gold card in order not  to pay the 175.00
after 2 months i will re apply for a gold premeir card and close the platinum

well when you call to cancel the gold and they say how about instead well upgrade you and give you 50k (no new pull or anything) I call that a really good retention bonus

You can call it whatever you want, but the bottom line is that they gave you a sign-up bonus for the Plat and gave you nothing as a retention bonus for the Gold.

I don't know when this was, but they've run a 50K Plat offer numerous times. By taking their offer, you simply chose to "sign-up" for the Plat at that point, instead of a later time. (You very likely would not be able to sign-up after that for the Plat and also receive a bonus, as that had already been received.)

And, again, the original question was aside from the Gold.

If you are only flying domestic it might be worthwhile transferring to BA as with the new program you can get some great short haul fares on AA. But you need to be careful about the mile expiring.

Please share said experience.  I've yet to read a single report of a Plat card not able to be churned.

Sign up for Gold. Assessed AF. Threaten to cancel. Offered MR bonus for UG to Plat. Receive bonus. Cancel Plat. Resign up for Plat. Denied bonus.

(This didn't happen to me personally, but I was informed throughout.)

Still have yet to hear of DDF'er denied a bonus on a churned Plat.
