ISRAEL, UAE agree on 28 weekly flights
« on: October 18, 2020, 10:50:03 AM »
(Bloomberg) --Israel and the United Arab Emirates agreed on a deal to allow for 28 direct weekly passenger flights connecting Tel Aviv with Abu Dhabi and Dubai, according to a statement from Israel’s Transportation Ministry.
The flights will begin “within weeks” and came after significant commercial interest from airliners on both sides in the routes, the statement said. Both countries are in the process of developing economic and diplomatic agreements following the decision to normalize relations earlier this year.

In addition to the 28 passenger flights, they agreed on 10 weekly cargo flights and unlimited (charter) flights between ETM and the UAE.

What's the rationale to fly from UAE to Eilat?

Returning from the UAE to Eilat (or to Israel at a low cost airport that's in desperate need of traffic).

Will this pretty much kill any traffic between Israel and Jordan?

If you're headed to the US and are mindful on the time it takes, Jordan is still more efficient than UAE.
But yes overall, UAE will likely kill a huge chunk on the traffic

Cant imagine that was most of the traffic. I think it was flying East that Israelis used Jordan.

And foreign laborers coming to Israel from Thailand.

I would guess that they are highly price sensitive. So they will take whatever is cheaper.

The mutual visa-free agreement is likely the last milestone before airlines can launch commercially, imho.

Especially with UAE being classified as green country, I can picture lots of Israelis eager to fill up planes
