Verizon Fios Router Recommendation?
« on: October 19, 2020, 10:39:32 AM »
Know nothing about this stuff, so would appreciate if someone who has Fios can recommend a good/cheap router. In case it matters, have the 200/$39.99 plan and will be moving into apartment.

Thank you!

Someone can suggest a router regardless if they have FiOS. What matters is that it have a gigabit WAN port.
You should specify the number of devices you will connect with Ethernet and the number of devices with WiFi that you will use simultaneously. Also, square footage of the apartment and the distance from where you will put the router to the farthest corner and the material of any intervening walls.

Are they mutually exclusive? Don't mind paying extra for a good one. Thanks!

Maybe 3-4 devices that will use Wifi simultaneously. Apartment is small, around 1000 square feet. Thanks for your help

The Ethernet port of RE230 can easily turn your wired Internet connection into a wireless access point.

Wrong product. OP is looking for a router. This does not seem like a router. Furthermore, it does not have gigabit, so even if you only have one WiFi device and therefore don't need a router, this technically can't exceed 100Mbps. OP has 200Mbps internet service.

The Ethernet cable that connects from the FiOS ONT to the RE230 can't communicate at more than 100Mbps because the RE230's Ethernet port is Fast Ethernet, not Gigabit.

Does it require a modem or do they provide that?

They have something, I don't know if it's called a modem or not, but you don't need a modem yourself. Just the router is sufficient

My existing router isn't working, they say you need a gigabit router.

Verizon is charging me $15 a month to rent their router, my plan gives 300/300 (what ever that means) Any recommendations which router I should bay to have my own and save myself from paying this Ridiculous rent fee?
