Mass Exodus From Liberal States

Over the last 4 months, my community in FL has grown over 5% (maybe even close to 10%). People have moved here from all over NY, NJ, MA, and MD. There are currently 15 more families looking to move in, but there are no houses for sale within decent walking distance to shul. My community is far from a hot commodity. Others around here have seen a much greater influx in recent months, with hundreds of families moving from CA alone.

Have you recently moved to FL?, or are you in the process of making the move? Do you know others who have moved already? Where have they moved to?

My in-laws shul in West Boca seems to double whenever I've visited over the last five years.

I think that there are many reasons for this trend.

In the Frum world, I honestly think that cost is the driving factor. Young kids getting married today are priced out of NY/NJ and are looking for a cheaper alternative. They find that the relative cost of living and the balance between it and differences in salary puts them in a better financial position. This is why the frum world is seeing growth in places like South Florida and Houston (among others).

In the world in general, the exodus isn't so much from liberal states, but from high tax states - mostly in the northeast. IINM, NY and CT's growth rate is tiny, compared to Florida's, but also to California's. There has also been movement to other lower tax/no tax states (TN, comes to mind), and I think this trend will get bigger over the next few years as companies will be more likely to close offices and be more open to remote work. (i.e. if I can live in Nashville and work for Amazon or Microsoft, why wouldn't I?). This of course will lead poorly run, and tax heavy states like NY to come up with new taxes, further causing more businesses to leave.

In this year's census, I wouldn't be surprised if NY loses at least 2 congressional seats because of it, by 2030 maybe even more.

Not FL, and not to a conservative state, but 200+ Syrian families recently moved from Brooklyn to Deal.

A rabbi of a shul in Manhattan told me that of the 90 families in his shul, 70+ moved out of NYC since March.

From what I hear it’s permanent. Manhattan is a shell of itself. A lot of the demographic that lives there is for the dining, nightlife, living near their office. Nightlife and dining establishments won’t go back to normal for at least another year or 2, and many of them are already shuttered. Offices are barely occupied. Rents are plummeting and people still refuse to stay.

Honestly this is what will result in America almost exclusively electing left-leaning individuals.

It will make the divide between red and blue states much greater.

I think FL is turning more red than purple. GA is seeing an influx. TX was turning purple, but they may shift red again. I don't know where people are moving to, other than those 3 states. The divide will be seen more by the blue states becoming bluer.

You think they're leaving blue states because they loved how they were being run and want to spread the gospel?

Why do you think those moving are going to make it more red?

Exit polls in TX show that transplants were more likely to vote Republican than native Texans.

You think they're leaving blue states because they loved how they were being run and want to spread the gospel?

The question is if they realize the connection between Democrat policy and the failure of their home state.
