Sure, but you lose leverage like this.
Even just talking to Airbus now would probably get a deal from Boeing.

Btw, I don't know when you booked for, but I wouldn't pin my hopes too high for LY to return to Newark in the very near future. They currently fly one daily flight to JFK, and from December 1 they're selling two daily to JFK and one to Newark. But that will likely get narrowed down in the coming days...
