Who's responding to calls? It's so you know CPR and AED and can potentially save a life one day.

 Thought it was just a free certificate. Which does absolutely nothing for you.

That's interesting.
 Needs a ton of in person training for a Medic course.

 Did an EMT course I needed like 180 hours of in class and lots of training on how to use and care for PT.

For acls pals etc. There is an online portion that you get a certificate for and then do the rest in person and get tested and get certified.
Regardless this doesn't seem to be acknowledged by aha rendering it useless on paper.

When I did it it was about 250 or so for the acls and pals but it's not something you need or useful for the layman or average emt

A real course for a paramedic cost a lot more than that.

 I paid just for an EMT course $1700+

These certificates are part of the costs of a paramedic class (just like bls is part of your emt class)
