State Parks Master Thread
« on: November 04, 2020, 09:03:19 PM »
There are thousands of state parks in the US. Most of them may not be worth going out of ones way to visit, but there are some hidden gems. The one to comes to mind right away is Custer State park in SD (which is arguably worthy of being designated a NP.)

👌🏻👌🏻
I saw the title and I right away thought of Custer state park.

There are also tribal parks, the ones that comes to mind is monument valley and antelope canyon. Should’ve been a NP if it would’nt have been in an Indian reservation.

If Valley of Fire SP in NV is not worthy of NP designation, but that stupid arch in S. Louis is, somethin's very wrong.
That place is downright jaw-droppingly gorgeous, and I've been to quite a few NP's in the southwest.

NP designation has to do with how successful the senators and representatives are in getting it

Nice article from Fodor's about 10 great state parks to visit (including Custer and Valley of Fire). We loved Itasca this summer and Humbolt Redwoods, Dead Horse Point, Custer and Hocking Hills on previous trips. Would love to make it to Na Pali.
