Identity Fraud
« on: November 05, 2020, 04:02:13 PM »
i have been getting lately 20 spam calls a day. one of the calls i picked up and obviously its the "IRS"  i decided to have a talk with them. they asked for my name and i said Boris Johnson. they asked me for last 4 of my social and i said 0911. the person on the phone then asked me who is  *****(my legal name) and *****(my nickname). i said i have no clue. they then cursed me and hung up.

do i have anything to be concerned? or its pretty much public info?

I went online to experian and I see on my experian SSN Trace report someone elses name and address, besides for mine. what should I do right now? i locked my Experian report. and i dont see this name on any of my credit reports.

1. should i be concerned about my first question? or is it public info?

2. what do i do about the second issue?

Thanks!

Identity theft is rampant see below what happened to a family member.

Update:
Looks like the inquires is real... someone tried applying for several different accounts so far the accounts weren't opened.
this type of story you only read about in the news its a good reminder to keep the 3 reports frozen.

is there a thread for fraud victims?

On #1 itself I wouldn't be concerned, but with #2 perhaps you should be more concerned about #1

What is an SSN trace report?

These fraudsters know your name, as soon as you try to say another name they hang up on you.

You'll be surprised how simple it's to get your personal info, I had a argument with someone about it and while I was talking with him he told me my full social, there are companies that do it for you you just enter some basic info name address and they give you everything available [background checks]

On experian they can check any activity with my social.   They found a different name and address on it.  But I dont see any suspicious items on any of my credit reports.  Might just be a fluke

We’re going in circles. What exactly does Experian scan? If they’re finding something, can’t they tell you where?

I'd rather think that this isn't true.

the dark web

More vagueness. What does “the dark web” mean here?

Someone selling stolen data was selling his SSN with another name and address? That might just imply they’re either selling fake data or padding a list of real data with fake records.

If that’s what’s happening here then it’s coincidental and not really a concern.
