Referring to the Covid grab n' go, there's nothing valuable in these boxes but I still wait an hour on line to get them

I was doing the bread line thing for a while too. Then I went early to a distribution on James Street and waited on the long line of cars only to have cars show up later as the line started moving and squeeze in to cut the line, ignoring the honking of the cars that had been patiently waiting for 20 minutes. That did it for me. I made a u-turn and drove away, and haven’t gone for a box since. It’s one thing if I’m holding by tomchei shabbos or something but I’m not going to allow a free handout to destroy my human dignity.

Government handouts. More addictive than heroin. That's why the liberals want as many people as possible dependant on it - once your dealer has you, you have to keep going back no matter what the price is and what it does to your life.

i'm not sure if the diagnosis is addiction or fomo
addiction = something you know what you're going into, you know the consequences, and you still do it
FOMO = you know something is happening, not sure what, you risk yourself to do it

These covid boxes, it's definitely a waste of time, but its a shaila what's in it, so we got a real chakira here maybe it belongs in the halacha thread

If you want to know what’s in it you can get a hint by checking out next weeks supermarket flyers. If a really random item like breaded green beans or cauliflower pizza is on sale it’s an overstock item or otherwise discounted and it will probably be in the box. The profit margin has to work.
