Why is this thread in Just Shmooze?  Is this not a live trip report?  @Suave has done a few of these LIVE reports a while back IIRC.

There's 5 of us. I slept in the connected motel for Shabbos and tonight we're driving through the night. Supposedly there are 6 beds, but I have yet to see them all.

We extended the RV awning over the little hut with a table to act as an eruv between the RV and the hut.

Cabover, converted table, flattened couch, rear bed, 2 bunks.  When I heard about this trip, I was wondering who was going to take the bunks.  Not exactly sized for adult men.  The bunks probably convert into additional seating, but that may be just as worthless.

Dan, very proud of you and happy that you were finally convinced to go out and see the real America the Beautiful.
Having taken my family on many road trips over the past several summers, some in RV (many thanks to @whYME for introducing me to that world and for his and @Something Fishy 's amazing help several summers ago in navigating them then as a newbie to the national parks and a motorhome), there's simply nothing in the world like it!

As I learnt back then, all those shmancy Starwood points were worthless in these areas. That's when I learned not to be part of the sheeple who just hoard the points that are constantly blogged about, and instead learned to not keep all my eggs in one basket. That in these areas the best points to have on hand were the ones rarely blogged about. But that was relevant for either the Shabbos hotel stops or for when I went without an RV in the unfortunate situations which I couldn't find a deal (i.e. most of the time :( ) . B"H even this summer at the height of the RV season, we still managed to snag a deal. Without a deal the costs are simply prohibitive.

Best of luck, don't freeze, and enjoy the נפלאות הבורא!

shmancy Starwood points

IMHO IHG is the best for the road, meaning, they offer the most savings and availability + Candlewood and Staybridge beat the Marriott versions.
Always praying for delayed baggage.

Agree 100%! Though Choice, Wyndham, and Best Western (in that order IMHO), can be useful as well.
Important to keep in mind, that on a road-trip more often than not one is booking last minute, so one can't rely on there always being availability in any one chain. And on an average summer night many of these places near NP's do fill up fast.

Hence the beauty of an RV :) .

So how do you go about getting a deal for an RV? I think I looked into it until I realized hotels are cheaper.

I had a friend that did it, takes a lot of time for upkeep and driving takes x2 as long...

If one has a large family and/or ample time it might be worth it.
