I would be careful with Avis. You have to make sure the inside of the car is clean otherwise they will charge you for cleaning the car.

I think you are right the Europe version Mazda 5 seems to have a small 3rd middle seat in the second row. There does not seem to be much luggage room when all seats are up. Pricing difference between this and a regular size 7 seater minivan is very small, but i have a feeling the gas mileage on this is much better. Anyone actually rent this?

I have rented one and indeed some versions have a 3rd seat belt in the second row.  The US version only comes as a 6 seater.

Luggage space is two-three duffel bags in the back and one on the floor in the middle.  If you have wheeled bags, they better be carry-on sized or else they will not fit in the 'trunk' of this car.  You can fold down the back seats to increase luggage space, but then you obviously lose a seat.

thanks for the report, I did rent the Mazda 5 for part of my trip, and as you say it had an extra jump seat, but the seat belt was not fully installed, it had the over the shoulder but not the part it clicks into. At the time I only needed it for 6. With the seat belt it is doable for 7 but they better be small people. Gas mileage was somewhere inbetween the Mazda 3(which is good in my experience) and the Kia Carnival(relative guzzler).

I just had a mazda 5 from Hertz for $83 a day, thats for a weekly rate.
Call Chaim Gross on 0527617828. He waived the extra high season charges.

i'm gonna try it when i have time. Noach gave me a great rate with hertz but they officially charge an underage fee (21-23). does anyone have experience with this?
ii got charged underage (21-23) with hertz, but then again- i wasn't using an agent. Sometimes they can waive the underage. They also can put in an ishur for an upgrade on a car, allow under 25 a class d etc.

I can do $55 including ins. w/o MCW.
Agents don't have the ability to "waive" high season, usually the rental companies just give them a special rate for high season. But based on the rate you got, it actually looks like you got high season rates

i would also take a good walk around the car, avis charges a fortune for every scratch.

Would you of been able to do a better rate than that for end of July?? Whoever else I tried was way more than that.
And I believe that he did get the high season fee waived because on the final invoice there was a zikui for a couple hundred dollars for high season.

I'm sure he got you cheaper than full rate HS, otherwise he wouldn't be an agent, but paying an extra $30 per day isn't getting it "waived".

I was in Israel last year succos. I rented in TLV airport for my full 21 Days stay. The total price came out to be $427

I rented from budget on the US site

The base price per day was $7 !! I booked the smallest car - Hyundai Getz, they upgraded me to a Mazda (Shalosh) 3

I had an mastercard world so that saved me about $3 a day.

$7 x 21 is much less than $427 - the difference was airport tax and insurance
