COVID related insomnia
« on: November 10, 2020, 09:07:14 AM »
After I had COVID back in March I started having issues staying asleep and eventually started using a generic form of simply sleep (Target or Walmart brand).

I thought it was just me, but apparently 1 in 5 people who had COVID have begun experiencing sleep related issues

I am thinking of switching to melatonin as I dont really want to keep taking sleeping meds every day.

Am wondering if anyone else among the COVID survivors has experienced this and what you are doing to help get decent sleep.

"Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19): There is no good evidence to support using melatonin for COVID-19. Follow healthy lifestyle choices and proven prevention methods instead."

i wasnt going to post this necessarily but it seemed relevant to you.

I appreciate it - but I think this was talking about taking it to prevent or treat the illness itself.

My issue is whether it has been useful in treating the insomnia which manifests in 1 in 5 people after they recover from COVID.

My experience with melatonin is that it helps you fall asleep but does not keep you sleeping.

They sell slow release melatonin.
Sorry if I ask so many questions, but life is short and there is so much to learn! Let's help each other be great!

Any updated advice for this? Is slow-release melatonin the only solution?

Interesting. Both my wife and myself had major sleep issues while we had COVID (for 2-3 weeks each), but BH they mostly cleared up after that (for my wife a few weeks ago, for me back last Pesach). It is certainly extremely annoying to deal with, so I wish you a Refuah Shleima!

Is it possible Covid gives people anxiety and that's why they can't sleep?
I'm not who you think I am.

Yes, the study found that is sometimes an issue and even among people who have not had it, but are up nights worrying that an ailment or symptom they have might be COVID.

We had this issue last year when we had the virus and it lasted like 6 weeks.
Someone I know that was sick recently had the sleep issue like 3 weeks, he used melatonin and it helped

My daughter had sleep issues for several weeks after covid, but we assumed that it was due to her biological clock being all messed up from when she was sick and sleeping anytime she was tired.
