Hi all. I have about $7,000 in United flight credits under 5 different reservation numbers. I really need to convert these to ETCs for them to be useful.
I confirmed with a United rep that I can, for example, book a flight for $200 using a $2,000 flight credit, and then get the $1,800 difference back as an ETC. However, I don't want to have to take 5 trips just to convert FCs to ETCs. My understanding from the United rep was that I could book the $200 flight, they would issue the ETC for the $1,800 difference, then I could cancel the $200 flight and that $200 would remain as a flight credit under the same confirmation number. However, the rep didn't sound totally confident about this. Do any of you know if this is correct?
Also, anyone know what happens if I don't cancel the flight and don't fly it either? (I ask because having five $200 flight credits doesn't seem very useful either.)
And if you know of a better option, I'm all ears.
