A user scammed me 800$
« on: October 10, 2022, 10:15:01 PM »
Hello,

I've been scammed by a user. He sold me 1k USD BA voucher for 800 USD. The voucher apparently worked but the airline suspended the tickets. I contacted them and then issued a reimbursement of 1k USD to his CC and the rest to mine. Now he doesn't answer me to get my money back (I sent through PayPal) Could a MOD help me to know what to do? He literally scammed me 800 USD which is a lot for me.

Why would they reimburse his CC?
Only on DDF does 24/6 mean 24/5/half/half

Why would they reimburse his CC?

Because they suspended my tickets and I used his voucher to cover part of the price. So instead of issuing a new voucher to him they reimbursed him the voucher amount to his CC. Basically he got away with full cash instead of the voucher + 800 $ from me.

After some research I've found that this individual has been pronounced guilty by a NY court for scamming hundred of thousand of dollars doing chargebacks. Can Mods do something so this individual doesn't scam anyone else?

His modus operandis is:

1) Booking a flight ticket
2) Cancelling it
3) Receiving the voucher
4) Selling the voucher
5) Calling the airline to say that someone has used the voucher without his consent
6) Airline suspend tickets
7) Airline reimburses the voucher as cash to the scammer (what British Airways did)
Then the scammer keeps the reimbursement and the money of the other person

His nick is airmont45.

The steps should be deleted.

This is very hard to believe. BA is one of the stingiest airlines out there

Who booked the flight?
Doesn't matter.  The info shows up in his BA account.

If you report this to the airline, will they blacklist him?

The problem, I believe, is that most airlines don't allow you to sell travel vouchers.  Assuming this is true, I doubt the airline will help you as you've violated their policy by being a party to a transaction that was against their terms of service.  Seller likely knows this and that's how he is able to get away in many cases.  Very sad and  I'm sorry this happened to you, OP.  You could contact Paypal and vaguely mention that the transaction was a sell and you never received the product/service but I believe Paypal only provides protection if you paid a fee / the transaction was one in which Paypal was able to receive a % of the sales price as a fee.

Sorry for your experience, this will definitely make me much more cautious when interacting with users on here.
I have done a few different transactions in the past and never had any issues even though the users could have done shady stuff if they chose to do so.

It may not help you get your money back. It will help make sure he cannot do this to the next victim using this airline.

reading his posts, it looks like he may have bought some hotel certs, although he never reported back if/whom he bought from. the seller of the certs would likely know his name and basic info as he was prob booked as additional guest.
either way, if this is confirmed, you can let him know that you will be releasing his info so that others dont get scammed.
that may serve as an incentive for him to pay u back
at least u can find out his community/affiliation and see if anyone there can help u
also, you should release his initials and area code... something to help others in case he has multiple profiles

good luck and sorry for your loss- hope he pays u back

@ OP - Have you tried reaching out to his "community" or is he not part of one?
Have you done anything to help other ppl from falling for scam (other than on this forum)?
