Probably not for a 5 year old. They're not that hard to care for, but it does take some work. And they're cool, but their nails can be a bit sharp. as an 11-year old, I could deal with it, but 5? Don't think so.

My impression is that iguanas are best enjoyed by weed smokers. Non-weed smokers just look and say "but it doesn't do anything."

I really want egg laying chickens but 3 problems:


1) my wife won't let
2) it's illegal where I live
3) I have neighbors

People do this to save on property taxes.

I’ve done this. They are great pets and the egg production is amazing.
They do make quite a bit  noise and you’ll get caught eventually though.
