Thank you cards
« on: November 27, 2020, 11:24:33 AM »
Can someone please help me with a generic “lashon” of what to write for gift for morahs and rabbeim?
I’m very bad at it, and I go crazy every Chanukah trying to figure out what to write

Acknowledge their efforts on behalf of your child and how much you appreciate it. Make it personal and personable by mentioning something specific or a specific area in which they excel and/or support your child in particular.

Bonus points if you can connect the gift/child/teacher/event (Chanukah) to express your attentiveness in choosing the gift.

Give a man a fish and you’ve fed him for a day, teach a man to write and he’ll communicate better for a lifetime.

Another relevant thought is that it’s more important that your message is written sincerely and from the heart. Simply regurgitating a templated sentiment doesn’t pack the same punch and won’t be received the same way. דברים היוצאים מן הלב נכנסים אל הלב.

A couple of teachers/rabbeim mentioned to me, that gifts/acknowledgements at random times (as opposed to the standard chanuka/purim) make a greater impression on them.

Very obvious. Been doing that for years. Especially at the very beginning of the school year. "appreciation in advance" is what R Meir Stern called it when he gave me this advice many years ago.

It is impossible to adequately thank you for all the hard work that you have done for ******. Your care and devotion was clearly apparent on him when he came home each day, and he has thrived over the last months. Thank you for making your classroom his most anticipated destination each and every day.

Isn't that a bit of a solicitation? Or was it in response to such randomly timed gift/acknowledgement?

Na, these are friends of mine, not my kids' educators.

Aren't there any teachers on here that can chime in and say what they like to hear? :)

See, not hear. And the answer is zeroes. Lots of zeroes.

These to you? Have a favorite?

Not to him. His friend. The one who gave the blow up giraffe as a prize.

Note that all of these were Purim and end of year. The harder one is the note for Succos
