Meet Alfie Daniel and 77 of DoneDeals.com:

They've lived here since they were children (if they ever were children - it's unclear):

Here's another game in which you roll 2 d6s each turn, possibly benefiting other people,
but here, you always benefit. Beyond that, it's not very much like Catan.

11 board/card games for 99.95 - Deep Water Games (Ox Eye Media)
« Reply #5 on: November 29, 2020, 05:57:32 PM »

Free shipping at $100, so you'll need to add something to your order or pay $14.95 (to 08701, anyway).

The included games are:
Welcome To... [roll-and-write]
Welcome To New Las Vegas [roll-and-write, sequel to Welcome To...]
Sovereign Skies [strategy]
Trial of the Temples [strategy]
Mystery of the Temples [puzzly, IIRC]
Crows Overkill [I never really looked into this one, card game]
Realm of Sand [involves filling areas with polyomino tiles, IIRC]
Jixia Academy [tight 2-player card game that I've played using bits of other games]
Shadows of Kyoto [2-player, Stratego-ish, much smaller board]
Claim [2-player trick-taking card game]
Claim 2 [2-player trick-taking card game, sequel to Claim]

(Each one might also be available individually on the site.)

More info on them can be found here:
https://boardgamegeek.com/boardgamepublisher/38131/deep-water-games/linkeditems/boardgamepublisher

(Note: If you're a nice heimish family, about two of the games might be somewhat problematic,
and several more if fantasy themes are an issue for you.)

The humor in #1 seems accessible enough, if not necessarily in the best taste.
There is no humor in #3 (if you thought you were missing it).

So, there's a book trilogy called the Lord of the Rings... You've probably never heard of it, or the movies
based on it and an associated work that brought in something like $4.5 billion at the box office alone.

Selfie Day on Anonymous Twitter (not the hacktivist group):
https://twitter.com/search?q=%23ANITWTSELFIEDAY&src=trend_click&vertical=trends

This is reasonable, but also, I can explain this. At the time, all images in the posts with this hashtag
were showing up for me as solid blocks of color (like when Nativ blocks an image, if you've seen that).
I thought the images were a deliberate joke on the part of "anonymous Twitter" - "selfies" in which the
person could not be seen at all. As it turns out, I was experiencing a computer mishap of some kind and
the images were actual selfies.

(Seems the mod agrees...)

(I don't know of a way to decontextualize response tweets.)

The humor in #1 seems accessible enough, if not necessarily in the best taste.
There is no humor in #3 (if you thought you were missing it).

To clarify, this refers to the first and third posts in this thread. However, "#3" should have
been "#4" - I was looking at the "Reply X" numbers above each post and didn't notice that
these start at the second post (the stress-assessment infographic is what's non-humorous).

Here's another game in which you roll 2 d6s each turn, possibly benefiting other people,
but here, you always benefit. Beyond that, it's not very much like Catan.

On second thought, there's also building up your resource generation for particular results.

Some DDF history:
There was a point in time when the Random Posts thread became a de facto dedicated member thread to the extent that a separate Random Posts thread had to be created for the general public.

! This claim about history is disputed

Really, though, that's not what happened. (You can check the percentage of
posts in that thread that are mine starting from my first recent post there.)
