Oculus Quest 2 and Filters
« on: December 02, 2020, 05:28:24 PM »
It seems like Oculus is now requiring a login to Facebook. This is blocked on my router based filter (disclaimer: that is not the only filter since it is typically not considered adequate AFAIK). Will that prevent it from being used? Can it just be set up on a different network and then used anywhere?

Nope other than having spoken in passing to someone from TAG who told me that it is a long conversation and is complicated. That was enough for what I needed to know at the time, but I would like to revisit it.

It would probably depend on the filter, you may possibly be able to see the links it's trying to visit..or just test it out.

A filter on your computer will do nothing for this device.
Presumably a router or ISP based filter will filter this too, but it goes through Facebook, so if Facebook gets filtered that can make issues.

Will depend on the filter and how it updates, often facebook mobile login page changes Ip addresses frequently. It is also very difficult to fully block facebook as a large percentage of non facebook internet usage is through one of their servers, so it is very possible that it will still work. If not you can probably sign in on a different network even a mobile hotspot and the login token should continue working on your filtered network without needing the facebook login server. Not sure if this was the question.

Thank you. This was part of it. The second part is what on the device itself may need filtering.
