Can you elaborate?
There is no sterile transit in Israel, there is just a separate passport control booth for passengers transiting. Plenty of people would transit in Israel now if the airlines marketed it competitively. The US & Canada amongst many other countries have PP control for some transit pax and still get plenty of transit pax.

A large portion of airline passengers would do anything to save a few bucks.

A large portion of airline passengers would do anything buy the cheaper ticket and not realize the added hassle to save a few bucks.

FTFY. It isn't necessarily a conscious choice. Most passengers aren't familiar with the transfer experience at all the airports they could potentially transit at.
