I hear that, but I'm not sure if price is AZN is being bought because it's cheap (the price of vaccines is negligible for all Western countries), and I'm skeptical if the AZN price is low because of the efficacy and not because of lower production cost, so I think mRNA with a higher production cost would command the $20 price even if it was less effective, just by virtue of being available.

I can't find the exact details but it does seem like the US bought 300m doses of AZN at $4 already in May, way before any distinction in efficacy was known and 2 months before they bought Pfizer at $20.

It wasn't priced based on efficacy, but at the end if the day western countries would not pay top dollar for a sub par vaccine like AZN.

Come on, the US approved it a few days later. The US approved the Moderna vaccine 3 weeks before the UK.

I think they technically committed 300m doses to the US in exchange for the (up to?) $1.2Bn they got for R&D, but that's meaningless without US EUA.

The UK approved the Pfizer vaccine before the US did. If anything , Trump bullied the FDA and slowed them down, it's hard to give him credit for speeding something up that was slower than the UK.

It is very possible, but not likely that the process was slowed by Trump's intervention. More likely is that the higher ups acted as a backstop and didn't pass on the pressure to the researchers. Either way, anyone with any knowledge at all of FDA approval can tell you that it being approved later than in Europe is the standard procedure and not indicative of anything. It typically takes much longer. I mentioned this at the time when you were busy dumping on them over it too.

What difference does it make where they sell it? Any successful vaccine would sell somewhere. 'שווה פרוטה במדי'

AZN is garbage enough that the US won't use even though they have a 30m stockpile, yet Western countries are buying it and using it out desperation. No Western country is taking consideration a $3-20 price difference when vaccinating it's citizens, if AZN was $20, they'd be buying it exactly the same amount. (Pricing is decided based on production costs, if it's overpriced government will seize it).
