Wow, just like that, Pfizer files for FDA EUA. I also thought last week's info was only preliminary, and heard Pfizer's CEO said the goal was to have it available before the new school year, so it's unclear what changed so quickly. The article says FDA review will take a few weeks. It would be amazing if it could be authorized for 12-16 by Memorial Day, and could be a gamechanger for many sleepaway camps across the country.

2 doses would still take just over a month, still longer to administer it to those eligible 12-15y/os.

Personally, this is a game changer, even if it means only one dose before camp.

The United States has administered 243,463,471 doses of COVID-19 vaccines in the country as of Saturday morning, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) said on Saturday.

The agency said 146,239,208 people had received at least one dose while 103,422,555 people were fully vaccinated as of Saturday.

NYT now reporting that FDA will approve Pfizer vaccine for ages 12-16 by early next week - wow! This can make a huge difference for sleepaway camps this summer, as well as for Israel that is expected to follow the FDA's lead.

Nice. Though it is a bit late on the Hebrew calendar considering itís almost Shavuos.

Wonder if this will create a short-term demand crunch on Pfizer oversupply.

Still have 6-8 weeks before most camps start.

1 week to approval. Then 3 weeks at least until 2nd dose (depending on how soon you get 1st dose), then 2 weeks post 2nd dose to be fully vaccinated.

I think too much stock is put in those 2 weeks post second dose for full vaccinated status. As I understand it, the second dose is more for longevity than efficacy. (I could be very wrong. I'm sure someone here will set me straight if I am.)

Efficacy is generally higher the younger you are, so 1 dose in children is even better than it is in adults.
I wonder what people who type "u" instead of "you" do with all their free time.

This is true, unfortunately Pfizer has a financial incentive not to study the efficacy of a single dose in children now that they have EUA approval for two doses in adults.

Can't wait for states to require schools to vax all their students before the new school year.
Going to be fun watching anti vaxxers.

Don't think it'll happen for most schools.

it may be problematic to make such requirements. because the vaccine are only authorized for emergency use.

Going to be a very obvious red/blue divide. LA is already showing phenomenal results.

Not sure what oversupply you're referring to. In/near Lakewood you can't find Pfizer. 95% of the locations within 30 minutes are either Moderna or J&J.

The NYS site near me in Brooklyn has walk-ins with capacity for 3k daily jabs of Pfizer.

FYI for anyone looking for specifically Pfizer in Lakewood, Walgreens has wide open scheduling.
