Is there a better way to make the trip in comparable time to a non electric vehicle?
Their goal was around 500 miles per day. The correct way to do this would be to start with a full charge and you can go at least 200-250 miles until the first charging stop. Charging at a 350kW charger would be great, but even 150kW will get the car back to ~80% in 20-30 minutes, which is enough time for a short lunch break. The next stretch will be close to 200 miles, followed by a 10 minute bathroom break to charge enough to get to your hotel. Make sure the hotel you're staying at has a destination charger, so you can start the next day with a full charge again.
To answer your question, unless your goal is to drive non-stop, you can definitely do the trip in a comparable time to ICE cars.
