I posted a tweet that includes actual numbers straight from the UK government. Your article includes anecdotes from a few hospital doctors, that can be explained with the simple fact even a 2x rise in Child covid hospitalizations that were very low in the first place wouldn’t really be noticeable in a hospital

If they were low enough, the 2x rise might not be very statistically significant either.

UK Covid hospital admissions for 0-5, using a 7 day average, peaked at 12. It progressed gradually since October and is now over 20.

6-17 age group peaked at 12, progressed gradually since October and is now around 15.

The data set is huge and the numbers are most definitely significant.

Israel currently has 50,799 known active Covid infections. 10,381 of them are school students. That's with many schools closed in 'red' areas.

40% increase coupled with increased transmission/spread is certainly significant.

How are they isolating the UK variant? Did they decode x amount of PCR positives in their 60s until they had 1000 of the UK variant, and then compared that to those that were decoded and found to not be UK variant?

ETA: What does “expected to die” mean? If they aren’t comparing actual deaths then how do they determine whether death is “expected”?

Is it possible that higher viral load for UK variant just means faster progression of the disease, and that’s what’s being observed here?
