Great deal on flights to Europe???????
« on: December 11, 2011, 01:05:04 PM »

AA is currently having some kind of system glitch in which a ticket from JFK- cities in Europe or Europe to JFK is coming out very very cheap. Ex. JFK- LHR  on Feb. 15 is $59 plus tax of about $100!!!!!

However the catch is you can't book a one way flight at those cheap rates, you need to book a RT ticket to get the great one way fares. And they make up for it by charging much more on the return so that the RT price is nothing special, for example JFK- LHR  Feb15. returning Feb 26 total price $723.90 AI.

I may have come up with a way around this though: book the outbound flight (which is the cheap fare) in regular lowest fare coach, then book the expensive return in Economy flexible which allows you to cancel the flight w/o any fees. Then cancel the return trip (free of any charges) and you have a OW to Europe for about $150 or so!!!

Is this going to work?????

Disclaimer- I got some of this info from FT.

Can you explain a little more what you mean?

Also,  if AA wouldn't refund me the amount for the return flight, what are my chances that I would be able to successfully challenge the charge with AMEX?

"Please review the fare rules for each segment. The most restrictive set of fare rules applies to the entire itinerary."

Is there any way to get a normally priced return on BA/IB?
This doesn't much like a glitch - how doesn't it know to charge more for the return?
Sounds like some kind of tax trick. (One flight is not profitable etc.)
