are credits restricted to be used only for original traveler or not?

can one book flights using travel credits for entire cost minus $1, and charge the last $1 on chase united explorer card to get free luggage?

Yes.

Good to know as was just approved for the business card. Planned on canceling current tickets > getting an e-travel certificate for them > rebuying tickets using credits + $1 on business mileage plus card to qualify for free luggage.

I just canceled a booking and requested an ETC, rep said I'll get it in about 7-10 business days, is that how long it really takes?

I hope not.

If so, am not so sure that I'm willing to do as originally planned, as having to wait 7-10 BUSINESS days could lead to ticket price increases.

Yes.

as my new tickets are the same price as original/value of travel credit, the system does not allow me to not use entire travel credit, thereby leaving over a small balance to use on chase explorer card to get free luggage. any work around?

You need to call to get an ETC, online you can only get a FTC.

Ah. Can I still call and either (1) convert from ETC to FTC or (2) use my ETC to book new tickets but not use full value?

I would rebook with the FTC then call and cancel and request an ETC.

will try. Didn’t think the travel waiver for change fees has unlimited usage like southwest. Assumed would be one shot deal. Thanks

Has anyone been able to reinstate an expired united travel credit?

I have $200 that expired in June (issues June 2019).

Any ideas?

Ty

No, only path is HUCA to get it converted to an ETC
Save your time, I don't answer PM. Post it in the forum and a dedicated DDF'er will get back to you as soon as possible.
