Disputing a charge for negative option billing
« on: December 27, 2020, 04:01:07 PM »
I was just going over our credit card charges for the year when I found a $47 a month charge that's been going on my wife's Chase card since May. She contacted the vendor and was told that she had signed up for a free trial that became a monthly charge when the trial was over, and that it's not refundable. What are the chances that she can successfully dispute any or all of these charges with Chase?

I have had pretty good luck with these kind of bills. Sometimes there is an issue of timeliness on the earliest bills. Don't neglect HUCA.

She signed up for an online course. I suspect there was a checkbox that she had to uncheck to avoid the free trial. She was disappointed in the course and had no interest in continuing, even with a free trial. She got frequent emails but ignored them because she thought they were just sales pitches.

After I signed up for Audible to get my $10 amazon gc I never remembered to cancel. I called amazon on Friday and they cancelled my membership and refunded it for me. Not surprised though because amazon is usually good about these types of things. It probably depends on the company. definitely try HUCA

What does “negative option” in the title mean? Is that the subject of the course she signed up for?

Scammy, dunno why the CC companies tolerate these shenanigans that probably result in loads of chargebacks.
