Looking to buy a New easy to use great camera
« on: December 31, 2020, 02:24:00 PM »
I'm looking to buy for the wife as a gift a new camera, I prefer it shouldn't be too tech complicated, should just be an "easy get to know" camera  without having to be too tech knowledgeable .

Any suggestions i would greatly appreciate.

In what price range?
It's almost always cheaper to get a smartphone over a point and shoot from a picture quality perspective.

That was the first camera that came in mind. As you always promoted it .

But I was wondering if you still stand that this is the way to go , and if its not too tech to get great shots.

I would have to disagree, especially at that price.

Generally speaking point and shoots are the easiest smallest but not great quality option.
Mirrorless is pretty compact probably your best bet, I'd go with a later model, the a6000 I find specifically unintuitive

Doesn't have to be very small. Aa the 6000a is mirrorless why wouldn't you suggest it ?

It's a great camera and was way ahead of it's league when launched (2014 IINM), but there are new versions which are better. You can always get better but I wouldn't recommend a 2014 camera for 2021..

Sony in general is a leader in the mirrorless market, but their menus and ease of use were never as good as canons (I don't know about newer ones I believe they are working on making it better).

So which one would you recommend? Sony later model ? Canon? If cannon which model cannon?

I bought this one, great camera for this price range and size, for the purpose we need it we get great quality photos, and the videos are also incredibly clear even on full 32" monitor. But the zoom quality is rather poor.

If you want one that'll fit in her purse, I think you want a "Point and Shoot" camera. prices range from $100-1000+. Picture quality varies (usually) in line with price. We are happy with the Canon SX740 (about $400). It has a long zoom and the pics are pretty good. Our last camera was the Canon SX620 which is def a step down.
If your wife wants a CAMERA, (to hang around her neck on a long strap and say she's a photographer) you want a DSLR or Mirrorless. Prices from about $450-10,000+. these are the cameras that you can buy different lens that can improve the camera. Once you learn how to use it, the pics will be leagues better that a point and shoot.

Find either a canon or sony Digital Point And Shoot and click buy. If you're looking for something that will A. take pictures, B. easily and C. share via bluetooth/wifi - that's all you need. $200-$300 and done, if you're going for slightly higher end.

If you're looking for a photography hobby and want to be able to switch out lenses for long zoom, short zoom etc., you want a mirrorless (very lightweight, speedy shutter) interchangeable lens camera.
For that, I would recommend something in the Sony a6000 line but not older than 2018. Sony come with an excellent 'pancake' lens; it's super thin and will allow the camera to fit easily in a pocket or purse, the lens has electric zoom and auto focus, so you don't need to fiddle with buttons.

I'm not familiar with canons offerings, personally I think Sonys glass is better but canon is a super close second, and leads with slightly better usability. Canon usually comes with a 'kit' from one to three compatible lenses so you have some options right off the bat.

Keywords to look for:
1. Mirrorless (means its lightweight and supports switching lenses)
2. Wifi/Wireless photo sharing - allows you to pick your photos and download them to your phone on the spot.

Don't spend more than $1,000.

I more or less agree with the above, with the exception of buying a point and shoot. A similarly priced (to a point and shoot camera) phone can get you much better results 99.99% of the time

So what it comes down to, if you want "easy" get the Canon EOS M200, it looks like a pretty fun machine. It does have the ability to swap out lenses, for example if you want a longer zoom or a macro mode, but it's also perfectly fine right out of the box. You can add the VLOG kit which seems to come with a tripod and an extra memory card, or you can skip it. You can eventually use it for more sophisticated purposes as well, once you get to know it.
It's a small form factor, so easy to fit in a pocket or purse.
The Sony equivalent would be the a7000

If you want "something that takes pictures that's not a smartphone" and being able to change out lenses is more than you're interested in, the [ur=https://www.usa.canon.com/internet/portal/us/home/products/details/cameras/point-and-shoot-digital-cameras/advanced-cameras/powershot-g7-x-mark-iii-video-creator-kitl]PowerShot G7 X Mark III[/url] (or older, cheaper model of the same) straight up Digital Point and Shoot (DPS). This comes with wifi sharing so you can send your pictures to your phone and an optional tripod and memory card kit.

There's not much difference in quality between brands for DPS cameras, so go with the options you want at the price you can afford.
