Schumer calling for 25th Amendment or impeachment. Pelosi press conference at 1pm.
I think this is bad for our country. Right now, there is a certain unity between Dems and most Republicans that the president stepped over the line. It can be the beginning of a unity between the parties to some extent. Forcing Republicans to take a harsh stance on Trump can fragment this unity.

The Dems are set to have control of the White House and both houses of Congress. There is no need for them to stoke the embers.

That's my first impression. Agree?

This gives Trump-backing politicians a way to back out and somewhat save face. They impeach him for a week and don't have to have the "we supported insurrection" over their heads.

...and lose a huge block of Republican Trump backers, so that they can never win again in some districts.

Ha? I'm just showing that there were famous right wingers there, this wasn't an Antifa false flag op.

And I'm saying that the fact that they were there does not mean they were involved in the violence which is what I presume you are upset about. If you are also upset about the protest, then that is a different discussion.

The woman killed yesterday is Ashli Babbit from California, a 14-year veteran, who served four tours with the US Air Force.

And what did she do that led her to be shot by whom?

I'll help you out a little

One is going out and stealing because he wants free stuff.

The other is putting himself on the line to (do what he perceives, whether rightly or wrongly, as necessary to)  protect his country.

This was posted before I had a lot of information. Now that I've seen a lot more pictures and videos of what was going on, especially the looting and vandalism, I'm not so sure it applies to as many of them it seemed at the time...

Well if the goal is to help Trump build back up support right now I can't think of a better way than by forcibly removing him from office before 1/20.

(and this is basically what I was trying to say yesterday (albeit sarcastically) when you asked if I was saying we should let them vent.)

Impeaching him prevents him from running again in 2024. (משא"כ if they 25th him, AFAIU)

This is purely anecdotal, but the Trump supporters I know, which includes people who traveled to DC to protest yesterday, are disgusted by what happened yesterday and are not behind him at all.

I agree, impeaching him won't help the most extreme crowd. But I'm not sure that is enough of an excuse to not pursue legal consequences for his actions.

Impeaching him doesn’t help the most extreme crowd, it isolates them. It basically renders Trump a non-option for any other non-extreme potential supporters of his.
