Didn't parlor say they were prepared for this day
Amazon wasn't the only company that wouldn't take them. None of the competitors wanted Parler either.

Are you sure you'd rather have the government police speech?
Google/Facebook/Apple may have an audience that isn't accessible without them, but AWS isn't an internet backbone - there are many peers who do the exact same thing, and they do little more than you can accomplish with your own servers for a higher price.

Just the opposite, I want them to ensure that utilities such as Google and Amazon aren't preventing free speech. My phone service provider cannot ban me for things I say on the phone, and neither should Google, Facebook, and Amazon. Right now the 1st amendment is essentially worthless as private companies control nearly all forms of communication.

AWS is an internet backbone, when it goes down you can see site outages across the internet. Even sites not hosted on AWS have apps, databases, or other services hosted on AWS. For Amazon to arbitrarily ban websites to prevent freedom of speech, with no warning or time to move over to a new platform, I believe this should be regulated. These site also write code specifically for AWS, and can cost millions in development to rewrite, never mind millions in lost revenue.

That means deciding what is free speech, and what isn't free speech  ::)

Everything is free speech. But just because speech is free doesn't mean it can't be violating a different law. Right now it pretty clear that private companies are banning completely legal free speech and it's a big issue that has to be figured out. I'd rather have a law that errs on the side of free speech - onus is on the banning party to justify the ban - than the atrocity we have now.

Pornography, violence, glorifying violence, self harm, are all legal. Even terrorism to a certain extent. Do you not want them to be removed? Do you want the government to make the decision whether or not they fall into that category?

Didn't parlor say they were prepared for this day

I was discussing what seems like a general point and making a distinction, not specifically talking about Parler.

I might prefer it. Allow companies to censor those things. All that and a whole lot more is already being censored, can't get any worse by limiting their censorship abilities.

So... said another way, allow the government to dictate which speech can and can't be censored by companies. Did I misread that?

A better way of putting it - large essential companies censor whatever speech they desire, I might prefer the govt limiting that ability to select scenarios. I haven’t formed a solid opinion on this yet but I don’t see how limiting censorship is worse for citizens than the unlimited censorship we have now.

Headline is clickbait though- it's only being blocked for customers who request it.
