Disputing charge - penalty
« on: January 09, 2021, 06:30:08 PM »
Hi, JetBlue charged my card double for something. I can call and tell them what a headache and get some compensation, but don’t want to wait the line....

So here’s my question:

Should I dispute with my credit card or will this impact me in the future (blacklist me)
In general, does a dispute ever harm you?
I hear that a business is charged $20 when someone disputes.

As far as the $20 charge, that’s Fake News.

But you can’t initiate a chargeback until you try contacting the merchant.

No its not. Depending on who the merchant processor is the fee is on average $25 for the business the dispute is opened against. For a business the size of Jet Blue it might not make much of a difference or they may even have an agreement not to be charged at all. But there is most certainly such a thing as a charge back fee when a customer disputes a charge.

I fight chargebacks for a living and have never seen such a fee.

Is this a general rule for all businesses?
My Tapatalk notifications don't always work.

I stand corrected – checked some statements and it’s lumped together with the rest of the fees.

So, what’s the best move?

Do I need to worry about blacklisting? Or should I wait the line and talk it out?

I realize JetBlue is a big corporation, but I think a mistake should be brought to the attention of the business before it's disputed.
Dial into jetblue, put it on speaker phone, and keep surfing DDF and the web until they pick up.
there's even the idea of them calling you back.  IDK how to do it for JetBlue, but there are some magic phone numbers for some corporations.
