If you do it yourself what tools do you use to clean it and how satisfied are you with the job?

Just want too pipe in to say it's very important to get the vent cleaned, however you do it. Had a fire just over a year ago from it.

A dryer is something every house has, and everyone should be cleaning it one way or another, but you see such little talk about it as if no one ever cleans it, (its like checking tefilin and mezuzes oh why am I going there disregard)

How did you know it was gas fired, maybe I had electric and your pun run ran dry? (Spoiler alert - it was in fact gas).

Lol.  Ours doesn't...we line dry everything, and have fewer worries for it.

Once in 2 years about, I call a company to do it.  Costs $150 and they clean it professionally.

To answer the OP question - not often enough, usually whenever we feel the dryer isn't performing well.

I use the extendable brush as I really need to get quite far, since my drier vents out through my roof (had it for many years, recently some pieces broke, time for a new one).

Very happy with them.

Once a year seams a bit too religious. If you remove the lint from the dryer filter regularly you avoid larger buildup.
I used the first one, it works but running it through multiple elbows is a struggle.

The vacuum attachment looks like it is to clean the filter in the drier itself and won't do much for most ducts that are much longer than the 25 inches that gives.

A neat trick to clean your dryer vent is to take a leaf blower and blast it through your dryer vent.
 Do it from inside you home to the outside.

  If you in fact have a lot of a lint you're going to need some on the outside to unclog it ,if it gets trapped by the outside vent.

  If there's too much pressure good chance some of the vents especially if it's connected with elbows and other pieces will come apart.

 Try it and report back. Good luck.
