S20 Issues
« on: January 17, 2021, 09:52:55 AM »
Hi I updated to the s20 in December, and I haven't had a normal day of using my phone since, I'm not sure if it's the internet or just the phone itself.
Everything is updated apps & the phone itself, I'm on Verizon, and I'm in Lakewood.
I think the issue is 5G since the phone supports it, so it's constantly looking for 5G, even though it's very slow around here, and that's what's causing it to go haywire, I literally have to open & close any app like ten times to get a connection...
There is no option on android to stop using 5G, and I'm not even sure if that's the issue. My friend told me he's having the same issue. Does anyone here have the same issue? Anything to do about it? I bought the s21 now but not sure why it would be any better if 5G is the issue. HELP!! THANKS!!  :'(

I have no such issue with S20.

Using net 10 via GSM

Did you try to insert
A SIM card from a different network to see if Verizon is the issue?

I don't have another carrier sim to try, but wifi was not the greatest either, that's why I'm not sure if it's 5G issue, unless it's a separate issue...

Lots of things you can try, 5g probably got nothing or little to do with it.

Restart your phone.
Try disabling 5g network (which is very possible on android GIYF)
Reset your phone to factory defaults.
Try other sims or without any sim card.
Call Samsung support.
Call Verizon support.

Believe me I restarted my phone, updated, called Verizon, called Samsung... Nothing helped, I know tech and played with everything that would help but nothing did. What's the method to turn off 5g????? In network connections I have 3 options; global/cdma/gsm that's it

What did support say?
What about:
Reset your phone to factory defaults.
Try other sims or without any sim card.

Why would you cancel your order just because @Dan wants certain features that aren't present on the phone? If you don't care about those things, why should @Dan's opinion on it change yours?

I haven't had issues on my S20+ 5G across the board but I have had connectivity issues with google maps, it often just can't load results when I search, I have no idea why.

Neither. CDMA and GSM are 3G technology.

Just figured out a solution!! Didn't test that long enough, but basically I downloaded an app from the Google play store called "Samsung band selection", open the app and go into launch band selection and select LTE ALL.
This basically overrides Verizon's "network mode" in the settings, and gives you the option of staying away from their horrible 5G!!

Just figured out as well that if you go to connections in settings and turn "advanced calling" off, or to hd voice only, that forces the phone to 4g and not try to connect to horrendous 5g and kill your battery

Yup, same here. Still adjusting though. I loved my Pixel 3 too much. Wish the Pixel 6 would be out soon.

Anything in particular you feel it hard to adjust to?
