I would've assumed that a sofer would be more makpid about putting a clear space in middle of his username...

The price range depends somewhat on the Ksav which you choose.
Generally speaking, I think Sefardi Ksav is cheaper, Ashkenazi (Ari or BY) is a little more, and the Alter Rebbe's Ksav is a little more than that.

If it's your minhag then it's your hidur.

I'm not sure. I can tell you about the Chabad Minhogim but as far as Ashkenazim in general, I know there are those who are for Hamelech megillah and those who are against it. Especially in the megillas with less lines on a column.

I don't know about Megilla specifically, but Tosefos in Sotah discusses opinions that Shuros are mandatory in all Kisvei Kodesh, so I would think it's more of a chumra than a hidur.

What do you mean by "Shuros"?

I understood it to mean the layout of the page such as which words on which line and whether the 10 sons of Haman are on the top of the page or the bottom, or on their own page etc.

If you meant Sirtut. I think that all Megillos today have Sirtut but I may be wrong.
