Spouse as authorized user
« on: February 08, 2021, 11:02:19 AM »
Hi, my score is messed up as a result of the scams a few years ago in Crown Heights etc. I'm trying to add myself as an authorized user to my one of my wife's CC's.

This particular card issuer is one of those random ones (credit one), they charge for each additional authorized user. This is the only time that I've seen the question about being a spouse.

Why are they asking? Does this affect the chances of being approved differently? Can my low score affect her more because I'd answer that I'm a spouse? Will they close her account?

Thanks

To clarify, my wife has a thin file, very little but good credit history, while mine is terrible at this point.

I can't answer your question.  Sorry.

Discover is likely to approve your wife for a card (with a decent credit limit). You can add yourself there.
I suggest you become an AU on each card she has.  And your mother's cards too. Although I don't know if being an AU on many cards helps more than being an AU user on just one.

I see. Thanks for the advice! We'll definitely try applying for a discover card for her.

There is other laws in the card act regarding if the AU is a spouse.
