Can anyone summarize what point Castor is trying to make?  I'm not getting it.

You're the one that came up with an implausible explanation to defend the honesty of some kook.

I didn't come up with anything. The lawyer himself stated a reason for retraction which is not only plausible, it is the simplest and most obvious explanation. I have no interest or desire in defending Trump or his legal team. I also have no reason to believe this lawyer is a kook or dishonest, though I don't know anything at all about him, and I don't particularly care.

Not according to the US constitution.
But they would carry responsibility for their vote to keep it secret :)

What was it?  I've had to take a few breaks, and probably missed it.

OK, will you go on the record as saying he will be acquitted even with a secret ballot?
He may or may not be, but the results about Liz Cheney do not show it. This is the same logical fallacy you used regarding GA senate. Just because the additional stimulus failed did not guarantee a D win even though they did if fact win. This is clear by how close the results were.

Art. I, sec. 5

https://constitutioncenter.org/interactive-constitution/interpretation/article-i/clauses/760

I stand corrected, it would take 20 senators to force it to be public.

Not sure how you are reading it, but to me that seems like a very strong bias towards political accountability built into the constitution.

I meant Castor, not Schoen.  He's the lawyer who's talking now, on Trump's defense team.  I can't understand what point he's trying to make right now on the Senate floor, and he's been going on for about half an hour.

Twisting yourself into a pretzel. The constitution explicitly allows secret ballots, regardless of which way it is biased.

How does that in any way insinuate that what I said isn't true? I'll quote it for you so you can practice your reading comprehension -

If impeachment is a political process (and the only justification for it happening is that argument) shouldn't people have to take political responsibility for their votes?

You said people should have to take political responsibility by making their vote public. The Constitution explicitly says they do not have to (unless 20% of the vote forces them to).

Will there be a secret ballot? IINM it would take 10 senators to force it not to be secret, which is very likely not to happen.

A secret ballot will likely mean conviction (Liz Cheney won the secret vote), but an open ballot gives Trump much better odds of acquittal.

So the question is if the Dem leaders prefer to satisfy their base and remove the threat of a future run by holding a secret ballot vote, or they prefer to divide (& conquer) the GOP by putting it to open ballot and letting the GOP voters fight with each other and leave the door open for Trump to destroy the party with future runs/Patriot party.

Can the Dems use mail in ballots?
What about the congressman who died from covid? Is he eligible to vote?

He gets 2 votes for secret ballot.

Haha.

Interesting that it's the Republicans who had to use secret ballots because they don't have the guts to publicly vote anti-Trumpsters, Republican Congressman who died (Covid incidence is around 3x elected R officials vs D), Republican government in Georgia that allowed mail in ballots, Republican government in Utah that mandated all voting is only by mail ballots, and Republicans who won Florida with mail in ballot.

The congressman was in the House, and probably did vote there.  But couldn't vote this week in the Senate, even if alive.

Isn't your hand not considered a covering? Someone else's hand is and your own sleeve is, too. IIRC, it's a Rishon who points that out.
