I cannot get a retention offer on my Amex Platinum so I need to close my account at the end of the month.  I have a lot of MRs but I don't have any other MR earning Amex accounts.  What would be my best bet to preserve my points?  I don't think I feel like spending $250 on a Gold card.

downgrade to a green or apply for an amex everyday and then cancel the platinum

Doesn't the Green card have a $150 Annual Fee?  If I were to spend $150 for a Green card then I should go for the 45k sign up bonus.  All I can see for the Everyday card is a 10k SUB.  I've tried incognito but nothing else come up.  Is anyone aware of anything better?

Apply for the Gold card. No brainer for year 1.
And if you use Uber and Grubhub there's effectively no fee.

I don't use Uber or GrubHub on a regular basis, so there's spoilage like most of Amex credits.

I just realized that I had a PRG card which disqualifies me for the bonus on the Gold.  :'(

A blue business plus won't keep the MR points?
Still looking for a good MS method :)

Is there a timeline of how many years one must wait to qualify for the bonus? Or is it lifetime?

Officially it's lifetime, but it's not really. There have been reports of 3, 5, and 7 years.
The popup will let you know.

It would.

But there's no sign up bonus, right, and I don't see myself using the card very often.  That's why I thought with the Everyday at least I can get 10k MRs.

there have been reports of people who have not received the pop-up and still did not get the signup bonus. When they called they were told that it's because they had it already

Maybe they had a pop up blocker
