I have heard T Mobile can disconnect for using to much roaming

I know one or two people who have been doing it for years, though FWIW they're on a large T-Mobile business plan with many lines so maybe the overall roaming usage doesn't look bad (not sure if not works that way) or at-Mobile is willing to overlook it....

ETA: Just bear in mind that there are lots of people in Canada who don't have free calling to the US and won't be able to call you.

I've heard of full plans that were at up to use in Canada get shut down, but when one like was used exclusively in Canada nothing happened.
