I'm familiar with obi device.
my question is, without that device, there used to be a setup with some other sip services (I had/have an account with sipsorcery, I think) that allow a 'traditional' SIP device to 'terminate' a GV line. do any of those still work? what accounts would be needed? anything free or close to free?

Although I have it local I believe you can have it at another site as long as the firewall and the ISP will allow the traffic

Allow me to warn you that it is not a simple step-by-step process and you'd need a PBX as an intermediary

i use my gv number as a house phone in israel using the obi device

a couple of days ago it stopped making and receiving calls

i tried restarting the router to no avail.

any idea how to fix this?

I have had issues making phone calls directly from my GV app on my phone last day or 2. I can still call via my GV number on my regular phone app.

i ended up resetting the router, deleting it from my obi account, and starting from anew.

Even better, some carriers like T mobile have an app available (it's called Digits, if I'm not mistaken) that you call and text from any compatible device. Although you'll be having T mobile service, though that may not be a bad thing.

I'm actually using a smartphone but I just got used to texting thru the regular texting app
