Hey all, I am about to fly United metal PHL-SFO-HKG and back. I have A3 Gold, but don't really need the priority baggage/extra bags, and generally have lounge stuff taken care of. Has anyone had experience with getting any sorts of upgrades (to economy plus, etc), or is it not worth the FF# change to deal with? Thanks in advance!

Not a big deal to change the FFN. Can't say it will get you an upgrade, but it can't hurt.

Thanks, fair point. So the way I've done it in the past is to call in (which is more of a pain in HKG than it is in PHL). Is it weird to try and change it with the gate or ticketing agents?

No.
But I'm 99% sure that it was a flight with no availability that I only got on it with miles because of my MPE card.
Maybe that is a IRROP?

That explains it. It's a "last seat availability" Standard Award, which books into YN class. My guess is that somewhere along the line, the N gets clipped off (since the vast majority of airlines don't acknowledge two-letter fare classes), leaving the system to think that you had a full Y-class ticket. A useful little glitch, I suppose.

Sometimes economy books into HN class as well. Not such a great deal... Business books in JN class. Sounds great..

HN is a regular economy Standard Award. YN is "expanded availability"; JN is "expanded availability" for business Standard Awards.

what class will show on actual ticket ref YN that "n" drops off -- only will see on reservation page? or on ticket also?

e would like to inform you that your account has been downgraded to the Silver tier as the amount of tier miles required to retain your Gold card, was not accumulated.
